Patient had a partial toe removal surgery (cpt 28153) a couple of months ago to correct hammertoe. She now presents with the need for joint debridement. What diagnosis code would I use? Would this be considered a surgical complication, or still the hammertoe condition? And would the procedure code be 28296, which includes the joint debridement, or some other more "generic" joint debridement code? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
