It’s not unusual for organizations to administer an assessment for coding positions to verify that applicants have the basic skills and knowledge needed for the role.

There usually isn’t any special preparation beyond reviewing the same coding guidelines, conventions, and concepts you needed to know for the CPC exam and for day-to-day coding work. For an outpatient coding position, I’d especially make sure you’re comfortable with ICD-10-CM guidelines, CPT coding, and modifiers.

Also, keep in mind that employer assessments are generally considered confidential, so even people who have taken that specific assessment typically would not be able to discuss specific questions or content from the test.
