Our office is disagreeing on how to bill this. Provider states - A total of 9 areas of LPP were injected with Kenalog 5 mg/cc x approximately 0.2 cc per site. They are using 10mg multi-use vial and diluting. Some are saying 9 x 0.2 = 1.8cc which would be 1 unit and the dosage is 5mg/cc others are saying 2 units and dosage is 5mg/cc.

1.8 cc of a 5 mg/cc strength drug would equal 9 mg total administered. If you’re billing HCPCS code J3301 for this, 1 unit represents 10 mg of the drug, so that would be correct as you can’t bill a fraction of a unit and you’ll need to round up. Not sure how your colleagues are coming up with 2 units.
