What is LA Grade C Esophagitis coded to for ICD 10? What is the coding path?

Hi there, you would not code based on the grade. The grade is about the amount of erosion. However the ICD-10 codes are not divided that way.
To find your code, use the index, starting at esophagitis. Does your report specify reflux esophagitis, GERD, or another type? Or does it ONLY say LA Grade C esophagitis? If it ONLY says esophagitis, you can code K20.9 for esophagitis, unspecified. Hope that helped.

The ICD description is confusing to me but if there is sign of active inflammation then K21.0, but if a scope shows no active bleeding/inflammation, then K21.9. Does this make sense?
