I don't see forum specific to lab so I'm posting here.

Our lab does a CBC w/ automated diff WBC (85025) however if something potentially abnormal is seen they also do a manual diff (85007). I'm wondering the best way to code these. Per CCI edits, 85025 & 85007 can't be billed together however we could possibly bill 85027 & 85007.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Shena Betts, CPC

I recently researched this for my office.
the bottom line is that you cannot bill for a relexed manual diff.

the only time you can bill for a manual diff is when it was ordered by the provider.

also...FYI there is a lab forum here, but since it is titled "pathology & clinical laboratory" it is easy to miss.
