Question: Can you bill a CT (Chlamydia) or GC (Gonorrhea) with multiple units due to the collection being obtained from different sites, ie...vaginal, anal and throat?

Example: 87491 X 3 units- Can we bill this CPT code with multiple units or does it have to be billed separately.

Should we use a modifier 91?

Separate line items with individual units, and add a 59 modifier to the extras. 91 would be if you collected from the same site twice in one day - like if you had tried a treatment, and wanted to see if it made a difference, for example. Be prepared to send records - the claim will probably be held for review. ;)
