Wiki lacrimal gland prolapse

Question: lacrimal gland prolapse - in this case bilateral and upper - Dx no problem but anyone know of a CPT code other than unlisted procedure for the correction (surgical repositoning and fixation of same)?

I am not a very experienced coder. But I was looking in the current CPT book for lacrimal gland procedures. The closest I could see was the 68899 code, unlisted procedure, lacrimal system, with a modifier 50 for bilateral??? I hope that helps.

Lacrimal Gland Prolapse

There is currently no CPT code to describe repositioning of a prolapsed lacrimal gland, so it would be reported using CPT 68899 with descriptor "Reposition of bilateral lacrimal gland prolapse". The bilaterality is in the descriptor accompanying the unlisted procedure CPT, since unlisted procedures CPT codes do not take modifiers.

Also, be alert to a possible lacrimal gland biopsy that might be separately reportable (in addition to the lacrimal gland ptosis repair). The ophthalmologist that I code for frequently does both.
