In my example the surgeon performs a posterior laminectomy and a discectomy for spinal stenosis. The code description 63047 does
not mention a disectomy. The code 63030 menions a laminotomy/hemilaminectomy

Would 2 codes be used: 63047 & 63030? Or only 63047 with the assumption that a disectomy is included in the code?

Please include explain with your answer.

Thank you much

you cannot bill for a lami/disc if they are performed at the same levels. If the provider is treating for spinal stenosis then you should use cpt code 63047...if you read the guidelines in your cpt code book it states laminectomy, facetectomy, and foraminotomy with decompression of spinal cord, cauda equina, nerve roots eg, spinal or lateral recess stenosis.

63030 is for herniated disc

Hope this helps :)
