Laryngoscopy during postop of thyroidectomy

Hello,

Our physician does a laryngoscopy at their first office postop visit on all patients who have had a thyroidectomy and checks their vocal cords. I think this is routine postop and should not be charged.

Is anyone else charging it?

Elaine,

That would be included in the global period for the thyroidectomy and not separately reportable/billable unless it required a return to the operating room (modifier 78).
