Our doctors often describe the two different suture materials used when they remove a lesion. They do not usually use the word layered closure in their description, but it sounds as if they are doing a layered closure. I just read an article that said that if they are using different suture materials that they are probably doing a layered closure but that you should ask each time to make sure. Is that correct?

Thanks,

Dee

Our compliance office ...

Per our compliance office specifiying two types of suture material is not considered sufficient documentation. They will not give credit for a layered closure unless the physician specifically uses that terminology such as "Layered closure" or "closed in layers" or "intermediate closure."

Hope that helps.
