I have a LCSW that I have been billing under the Psychiatrist's .
However, before she was formally in a supervision structure with Doctor, so this was all in accordance with billing under Doctor. Now she is fully licensed as a LCSW and has her PhD.
My question is, to bill under Doctor for a patient that the LCSW sees, what should we be doing to make sure we're compliant? Does Doctor need to sign off on the charts? Does she need to continue monthly meeting to supervise and review all cases?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Hi Tch678:)
She or he your LCSW PhD (modifier AH or AJ) can bill on own accord with proper documentation of describe pt. problem assign dx codes, ensure put minutes in on notations too. Only time LCSW may need to check patient after psychiatrist gave /ordered the patient psych meds. Ensure the LCSW PhD is credentialed with payers such as: Medicare, BC/BS Medicaid in your state, Etc using her NPI# and assigned payer number . No not unless discuss special case, no need MD sign off on LCSW charts/records done.
Hope this data helps you
