I am a coder for the ENT Dept. in a hospital and am running into trouble finding info on a case. A Laryngeal Electromyography is performed with a standard protocol that uses both an otolaryngologist and a neurologist. The otolaryngologist places the needle electrodes; the neurologist operates the EMG machine, and both interpret the LEMG results. The CPT code for the LEMG is 95865. It has two components, professional and technical. In this case since the neurology department owns the equipment they can bill for the technical component of the code. Can both the neurologist and otolaryngologist bill for the professional component? How can this be done?
