Can someone please help? We are a practice of Opthmology, we have a provider that past away unexpectedly. The other provider in the office would like to hire a locum tenens to help see some of the patients that was his. We know we can not bill under the deceased provider, but can we bill under the other provider that will be taking over the deceased providers patients? And use the modifier Q5? They were partners in business that practiced together but under different group names/tax id's. The locum tenens practices in another city but only 4 days a week and is looking to practice with us just 1 day a week. He would be billing under the provider that obviously is still practicing here, just temporary to help out with all these patients. We want to make sure that this appropriate. Any help will be appreciated.
