When coding for Long Term (current) drug use codes V58.61 - V58.69, should you also be coding V58.83?

We typically don't. My impression is that the V58.83 would typically be used for something like a patient on long term Warfarin going in to see if their level needs to be adjusted. In that case, V58.83 would be primary, followed by V58.61, for long-term anticoagulants.

However, say you had a diabetic patient come in on long-term insulin. You'd code the V58.67, but not necessarily the V58.83.

This is my opinion, I'm interested to see what others have to say.
