We reccently had a "first" for coding in our OB/GYN practice. We had an OB patient present for a routine visit. She used the restroom and began to hemorrhage..........but not from the her uterus. She hemorrhaged severely and an ambulance was called. Our doctor met her at the hospital and found she had a vaginal varicosity that ruptured. He was able to suture the blood vessel but I can't find a code to describe what was done. I know I can use 59899 but it seems like there should be a code to describe the repair of a ruptured varicosity. Any suggetions?

I'm thinking of ICD-9 code 454.8 for the varicosity and 12002 (the extremity) for the procedure. Look at this for the size and see if it may be correct. Let me know how that works!:)
