CHI versus Concussion

I am looking for documentation under "ICD10 terms" when my physicians' should use CHI (S09.90XA) versus a concussion diagnosis (S06.0X__).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If Dr documents the patient has a concussion in the notes you would use the concussion codes. If he doesn't you wont be able to code as a concussion. Not all head injuries lead to a concussion.

The S06 category is for intracranial injuries. That is what a concussion is, a brain injury. The S09 category is for other and unspecified injuries to the head with the choice S09.9 for unspecified head injury. So it will depend on the provider documentation as to which one applies.
