The instructions for the new PQRS code for non-small cell carcinoma says that we must provide the cancer type with an explanation. What explanation are they looking for? Is non-small cell adenocarcinoma good enough?

Is it possible they are want the M codes for the morphology? These have always been used exclusively in the tumor registry but these days it may be what they want. I would inquire as to whether this is what they are wanting.
 
We do not do tumor registry in our lab. It is done through our hospitals.

The exact instructions for the PQRS code are: If the diagnosis is non-small cell lung cancer and the histologic type (eg, squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma) or NSCLC-NOS with an explanation is documented in the final pathology report, report PQRS code G9418.

I am just confused by the word explanation. What other explanation is needed?
