Does anyone have a copy that they can scan in for me of the rule on this from the CPT Changes 2016 book? There are no RVU associated with this code and I am in need of a source to validate if an MA can perform this service.

Thank you!!

The incident to guidelines indicate that surgical procedures can be billed under the provider as long as all of the incident to criteria are met.

This means that as long as it is within the scope of practice in your state for an MA to perform an ear lavage, then it is ok to bill the ear lavage under the physician given that the physician ordered the services and is on site (per incident to). This is similar to the administration of vaccines.

Finding information about the scope of practice for MAs is difficult since they are generally not as well represented as nurses. The state medical boards can provide you with scope of practice information for your area.
