Does the anesthesia record have to state that anesthesia was MAC?
I have searched the LCD, as well as other publications and I am not seeing that this is required.

For some reason, I thought it was required to be in the documentation...

Any imput would be appreciated.

Thank you..

MAC - documentation

Hi there,

The type of anesthesia should ALWAYS be documented. Although it's not clinical but billing information, it needs to be documented so we can pull out the charges correctly.

When this information is absent you'll need to kick the charge back to the anesthesia practitioner and ask for clarification.

We get clues from when they due blocks & GA, but unfortunately, we aren't able to discern & shouldn't anyway, MAC unless they tell us within the anesthesia record itself. Sometimes they want us to look at the plan, which is a great guide, but the record is what tells us what they did, not what they planned.
