Wiki Maintaining EOBs, Appeals etc

The accountant told us to hold EOBs for 7 years since they are financial records.
Appeals or other non-payment non-medical record data probably not as long, but since we kept them together, those were also kept 7 years.
Just remember, you need to keep the data, but not necessarily in it's original paper format. At the end of the month, we would run them through our scanner and only keep as many physical papers as the filing drawer would hold (maybe a year or so).
A previous job, they were kept 7 years as well.

I agree, 7 years is pretty standard and a conservative amount of time to hold onto records, but I’d recommend having someone check the regulations in the state where your practice is located because the laws can vary from place to place.
