Hi, I am hoping someone can help. One of my providers coded malignant hypertension with kidney disease (403.0 and 585.3) for one of his patients but I thought that this dx was used for an acute problem and a life threatening emergency. The note stated ?malignant hypertension, unable to control without HCTZ. Sees Dr. XXX every 6 months. Home readings 130/80 on present medication. BP stable.? Vitals at the visit were 152/100. The provider felt that he could still code the malignant hypertension code even though the hypertension was now under control with medication. Any thoughts??
