Hi all,

I have a friend that does massage therapy for veterans. He is only billing 97124 and recently started getting a lower reimbursement stating that this falls into medicare MPPR where more than one unit is provided to the same patient on the same day. Does anyone know much about this and if there is any work around (i.e. billing with a modifier). Also any other codes that can be billed in conjunction with massage therapy code 97124?

Please look in the CPT manual gives codes and description. Also ensure his or her documentation supports the massage body area, and which side off body, limb Etc. Add minutes in documentation, add referring doc and illness suffer with to need this PT treatment. Possible modifiers to use are G0,GN GP , 96, 97 ,50, XU and LT, RT 50 .Possible physical therapy codes are.... 97168 95891-95852 97010-97763 29065 29445 dry needing 97760-97763 acupuncture 99211 with 97810-97814 bill every 30 days . Massage 97140 97010 97122 97124 .Also do not bill CPT 97124 and CPT 97140 same day. Possible dx codes M54 I69 ,I63, M25 M47 M79,R29, M19 M09 R26 to R29. Add these dx codes should be last on claim if supported by notations Z91.81 Z74.09 Z99.3 Z73.6 Z72.3.If amputees add dx code for that too Z89 block. If pt hurt in injury need to add the external codes too ,date it happened, and place.
