Help! I can't find a code for the migraine medication Maxalt, aka Rizatriptan Benzoate, 10 mg tablet. (NDC# 68462-0468). Does anyone know the HCPCS for this??? Thank you!

No response, request your opinion on these codes

J8499 Prescription drug, oral, nonchemotherapeutic, NOS
J3490 Unclassified drugs

I am preferring the J8499, since this is a prescription that is taken orally.

I would appreciate any feedback on this. Thanks!!

If I'm not mistaken you may want to use the J3490 that the other member suggested. The J8499 according to my HCPCS book may not be covered by Medicare and per a few websites I've researched, here is one that may guide you to the proper choice. My concern about the J code is that it is listed under the heading "HCPCS drugs administered other than oral methods". However, the link below advises to use it. Hopefully those who are billing this drug will reply to this thread soon.

Thanks for the info

I appreciate your feedback on this! I will try using the J3490. Looks like this med may only be covered as a Pharmacy benefit, not Medical benefits though.
