I work for an outpatient substance abuse facility and have a question about revenue codes. What revenue code should be billed with CPT codes 99203 and 99213? I'm currently billing with rev code 914 and the insurance companies are denying all other services billed on the same day as inclusive. The representative I spoke with said we should bill 99203 and 99213 with rev code 510? Is this correct?

Thanks,
-Kristin

I believe the issue is the CPT codes you're billing with the 914 revenue code. Code 914 is for Psychiatric/Behavioral Health and the E/M codes you are using are office visits. Where as if you used E/M codes 90833-908839. So if you're billing 99203 & 99214, revenue code 510 works better.

There are several different ways to go about this.

You can bill Rev code 0960, 0520 or 0529 depending on the policies of the individual payer.

Some payers will want these types of services billed on a 1500 billing with the physician as the rendering and the facility as the billing provider. You would bill under POS 57 (unless its United Behavioral Health who will want POS 11 or 22)
