If the operating surgeon is doing the medial clearence prior to surgery are they allowed to bill for this or is it part of the H&P? Currently our doctors are required to reveiw all labs and ekgs by the hospital prior to the surgery. For some of these patients they would send them to their PCP, but most don't really need to see their PCP and our doctors do this portion themselves. Is all this extra work also considered part of the H&P. The decision for surgery is already made before all these tests are ordered and run. Sometimes the patient is brought back to review findings and any medication adjustments would be made at that time. I think this would all still be part of the H&P process because the decision for surgery is already made. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
