I work for a hospital based clinic residency program, my question is how many days are you giving your physicians to complete their medical record documentation.
We are on EMR and right now we are requesting all documentation to be completed in 24 hours, the physicians are asking for it to be extended to 72 hours. Since the clinic is an outpatient part of the hospital, we are governed by Joint Commission. I've looked for Joint Commission requirements and I can't find any thing that is related to outpatient hospital.
I've found H&P's and discharge summary, but not anything related to clinic progress notes.
I would like to know what time line you are given physicians to complete medical records.

We give our physicians 48 hours. Does not always work, but that is the time frame.
