Does anyone know what the law states for medical records retention in for the state of California as well as patient financials, eob's etc What I read is that California does not have a defined law for physician offices... Need confirmation please help!

It is my understanding that medical records must be maintained for at least 7 years from the last date of service, or if the patient is a child, they must be kept for 7 years or until the patient turns 18, whichever is later.

As far as financial records, you may want to check with your accountant for a recommendation.

Thank you!
