I work at an ASC and we have medical records files since 2003. How long do I have to keep them ? Someone told me 7 YEARS ,, another told me 12, not sure ? What are the guidelines and if any , and where can I find them ? thanks -trent
 
Check you state statutes. Those normally dictate retention. Also, your facility should have a retention policy that states specifically how long it will preserve those records.
