I have a client that I am helping to credential. She is a stand alone audiologist, but used to work for an ENT doing the same thing, except, now she's the business owner and not just the therapist and has a specific billing question for Medicare patients. This is her question:

"I have a question for you about Medicare. Medicare allows one routine hearing exam per year for patients without medical conditions requiring serial testing. I generally code based on the patient's type of hearing loss. Is there another code that should be used for routine tests? I have hearing aid patients who come in stating concern regarding a decrease in their hearing. If it has been over 1 year I always recommend a test to confirm. These are not referrals from the family DR they are patients coming in for help with hearing aids that aren't working as well as before or for a general HA follow up appointment. I want to be sure I code it correctly."
