Wiki Medicare code with an M at the end of CPT code

Hi, I am fairly new to Chiropractic environment and I am still in training process at the office, I notice that the former coder use the M at the end of the code for Medicare claim, e.g. 99203M or 98914M Its a little strange to me because I thought if it comes to Medicare then you should applied HCPCS codes. Does anyone has any thought or explain for this one?:confused::confused::confused:
