coding for lpn

In our OB/GYN office our LPN did a preg test. Can the LPN do a 99211? The other coder here is stating that only RN can charge for 99211. Provider was here in office.

I have never heard that it had to be an RN to bill. Per the codebook it just states "that may not require the presence of a physician". I have billed it for an LPN and a MA.

You can charge a 99211 for any qualified ancillary person but it IS a physician level of service, it is the only level the PHYSICIAN may charge when a qualified ancillary person is the one seeing the patient face to face carrying out orders provided by the physician from a previous encounter. And the Physician is in the office at the time of the encounter. You may not charge for the Nurse (LPN or RN) to administer a preg test as the provider did not see the patient in a previous encounter and order this to be done. A nurse may not be the initial provider of care and deliver the diagnosis to the patient for an individual illness.
