Hello. I need some help with coding meniscal reapirs done with mensicectomies. My doc did a left medial meniscus repair, and a partial lateral meniscectomy. The codes are really confusing me. We have 29880, 29881,29882,29883, and 29884. My doc wanted to use 29881 and 29882. I know that they are mutually exclusive but the other codes do not seem to work for this scenario- there was only a medial meniscus repair but no medial meniscectomy.... HELP!!!

If there was no meniscectomy I would code 29882

if medial meniscus repair was done with lateral meniscectomy, you would code it as 29882 and 29881-59 with corresponnding dxs. i.e. 29882 with 836.0, and 29881-59 with 836.1

Actually The AAOS global service Data book states that the meniscetomy for the same leg is included in the 29882 repair code.

It specifically states on line 13 under included services
"knee arthroscopy, surgical, meniscectomy, medial and/or lateral, same leg (eg, 29880, 29881)"

So I think you only code the 29882.
