Wiki Meniscus Repair to Menisectomy

Here is the scenario...The surgeon attempts a repair of the meniscus using a hi-cost suture...The meniscus tears so he removes the suture and instead performs a menisectomy. Do you code both? If so using what modifier for the failed repair?

Was this done during the same surgery? If so, I would say he can only code for the menisectomy.

I agree with Kathy, you can only bill the meniscectomy.
