Dear All:

The patient admitted with chest pain after ten days of acute inferior wall myocardial infarction(410.41)The patient kept in observation for two days and discharged.

Can we use 410.42(Acute myocardial infarction of other inferior wall, subsequent episode of care) as principal diagnosis in the second admission.

Your Kind advice is highly appreciated..
 
If the reason for the chest pain is documented as MI, yes you can code the MI as subsequent episode of care and it should be the Principal diagnosis.
