Does anyone have any experience submitting data for anesthesia providers other than via QCDRs? How are you submitting the data? What measures are you using? Our providers are newly eligible for Medicare, but we want to start gathering data and reporting as soon as possible. We have been told that there are no applicable quality measures to report via claims submission. Thank you!

I hesitate to say there are no claims-based measures for anesthesia providers because it really will depend on the work they do. Some anesthesia providers can report measure 76 (CVC bloodstream infection prevention), which can be reported via claims. Anesthesia providers who also work in a pain management practice can report a variety of measures associated with E/M visits.

Having said all of that, if the provider reports only anesthesia services, then they will need to use a registry or a qualified clinical data registry.

For registry measures, check the Excel sheet titled 2018-Measure-List_v2.2 located in this ZIP file: https://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Qualit...asure-Specifications-supporting-documents.zip

Here are the measures Medicare has flagged for the specialty this year:

  1. Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG): Preoperative Beta-Blocker in Patients with Isolated CABG Surgery
  2. Prevention of Central Venous Catheter (CVC) - Related Bloodstream Infections
  3. Tobacco Use and Help with Quitting Among Adolescents
  4. Anesthesiology Smoking Abstinence
  5. Perioperative Temperature Management
  6. Post-Anesthetic Transfer of Care Measure: Procedure Room to a Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
  7. Post-Anesthetic Transfer of Care: Use of Checklist or Protocol for Direct Transfer of Care from Procedure Room to Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  8. Prevention of Post-Operative Nausea and Vomiting (PONV) – Combination Therapy
  9. Prevention of Post-Operative Vomiting (POV) - Combination Therapy (Pediatrics)

For QCDR measures, go to https://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Qualit...ata-Registry-QCDR-Measure-Specifications.xlsx

You can filter by specialty in the first column. There are approximately 40 QCDR measures for anesthesiologists this year, but many are unique to a specific registry.
