I am wondering if anyone else is having same issue I am & if so, how are you handling it? We are a small rural community with local hospital & ER. No after hours clinic. Pts are being seen & admitted through ER late at night as inpt & our providers will not see pts until next day. They are admitted to our providers so they are expected to do H&P. Alot of times, pt should have just been obs instead of inpt. Hospital won't change status because ER physician wrote order to admit as inpt. My provider DCs pt same day as seeing pt. What should he bill?
 
If the patient is admitted to an inpatient status and d/c'd same day then 99234 to 99236 would be the code. If they are admitted to inpatient and d/c'd the following day and that is the only day your attending was able to see the patient and they do a full admit then 99221 to 99223 would be applicable.
