I recently started coding for a Cardiology group and not sure how to go about coding patients who have had mitral valve replacement. The doctors are coding both the valve replacement V42.2 and the mitral valve disorder 424.0, I was thinking the replacement eliminated the disorder?... but my limited experience in this specialty has me questioning if the doctors are selecting the correct codes or not. Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance.
