Mixed remainders for physical therapy

I understand that PT groups can utilize "mixed remainders" on timed units. Has anyone billed out their claims using mixed remainders? As a PT office, there is typically always left over units, totaling over 8 minutes. How do you justify this if the insurance asks for records or an audit?
