Having coded general surgery for most of my career, I am now moving over to radiology and have a simple question, and I find that my basic radiology 101 is failing me so here goes....
Should modifier 26 be used on a code that specifically reads "supervision and interpretation" in the code description. For example, 75894 reads "transcatheter therapy, embolization, any method, radiological supervision adn interpretation". Does modifier 26 have to be placed on that code? Thanks.

If you are coding for the professional component only, then yes, modifier 26 would need to be used on that code. Easy way to find out whether or not a code has 26/TC breakdown is to check the Medicare Fee Schedule...if the code can be broken down, it will show separate allowed amts for each. Hope this helps!! :)
