Hi group, just want to understand that this code 99152 is for the provider who does the procedure and the sedation(push) and
99156 is the code for the provider who does the procedure but someone else is doing the sedation(push).
Please confirm.
Thanks

99156 is for the other provider administering the sedation. If the surgeon does not administer sedation he does not bill these codes.

Thanks

99156 is for the other provider administering the sedation. If the surgeon does not administer sedation he does not bill these codes.

So If our providers are doing the procedure and the nurse in the procedure room is administering the sedation medication (pushing it in) they can not charge for this moderate sedation code. They get no reimbursement at all?

Is the nurse a CRNA? Then the Anesthesia group he/she works for would bill for the anesthesia services just like they always have.

These codes are used ONLY if the surgeon (or someone in the surgeon's group for the second set of codes) is involved in administering anesthesia. If not, the Surgeon bills for the surgical portion of the case just like they always have.
