Concerning the new Moderate Sedation codes (99152-99153) can the physician performing the Endoscopic procedure use this code when they are the same physician instructing the administration of the moderate sedation. Is that the intent of this new code.

Years ago the codes were 99144-99145 with similar wording and was not aloud in this situation.

Please Advise.
 
Yes, 99152 and 99153 would be appropriate to use. They can be used when moderate sedation services are provided by the same physician or other qualified health care professional performing the diagnostic or therapeutic service that the sedation supports. I hope this helps.
 
Insurance companies are bundling this to the surgery stating that this is only paid to the facility. If you look on Encoder, you will see that it says that this is traditionally a packaged item and that it is bundled into the ASC payment. Help please
