can anyone help me?
Scenario
Medicare Patient
Patient was seen in the ED on 01/04/10. The ED billed for their service. Looking over the inpatient case data in our system it reads that the admitting doctor was a surgeon. So now on 01/04/10 the surgeon billed for their service (99221-3). On 01/05/10 the patient is seen by the Cardiologist (inpatient service) which then bills for their service visit (99221-3).
My Question:
-can ED physicians use modifier AI?
-Is it the Cardiologist who should be responsible for appending modifier AI since they are hospital inpatient?
-Or is it the surgeon who should append modifier AI because they admitted the patient?
