I'm having an issue with figuring out whether to use modifier 24. The patient came in for a wound, which was repaired using a layered closure. The procedure code has a 10-day global period. The patient came back two days later with drainage and swelling at the wound site. Would this be considered related and part of the global care, or unrelated and billed with modifier 24? Thank you all for the help.

This absolutely would be considered part of the global surgical package and should be billed as 99024. The drainage and swelling at the wound site are complications of the procedure. It would be inappropriate to bill the E/M with a 24 modifier.
