I just started working at a new place and they are coding 17000-52 for 3 warts, reportedly for treating an area (same wart) an additional time (separate encounter). Cryotherapy was used. Any opinions?

A wart is not a premalignant lesion so the code is incorrect. Per AMA guidelines (For destruction of common or plantar warts, see 17110, 17111)

17110 would be appropriate for 1-14 warts. Considering this code is up to 14 warts it more than enough covers the additional work.

Thank you. That's what I thought. I also don't think they should use the -52 modifier. It's not a reduced service. Thoughts?
