Hello,
I am a Trauma I coder and we had a patient that came in through the ED with a gun shot wound to the chest. They took him straight to the OR for a repair of cardiac wound. We used code 33300 and the place of service was 23. The patient expired and was never truly admitted. The claim was denied for inpatient only services. I researched and on http://www.hcpro.com/HIM-285237-328...cy-helps-avoid-denials-ensure-compliance.html the Modifier CA came up. Is any on familiar with this modifier? Is this a facility only modifier? Or can this be used for professional billing?
