Pt comes back for 11043 10 days after sx procedure paid with modifier with 79 but the initial consult 99223 not paid for put a 78 on it what should it have it been. These are killing me

78 modifier is for procedure codes only. If this consult resulted in the decision for surgery then use a 57 modifier. If this visit was in the post operative timeframe of an unrelated surgery then use the 24. If your provider did not perform the surgery then no modifier. If your provider performs the surgery and sees the patient during the postoperative time for an unrelated reason, it is not a consult.

In all cases he did the surgery they manage to have an infection , after be admitting he was call for the consult then did the I D or graft a day or two later. I really thank you for your help
