Hi I work for and Internal Medicine practice and we just started to bill for the G0447. First, do we use 278.01 or do we use the BMI appropriate V code? Secondly, how should these be documented? Please advise.

I'd advise you read the Med Learn Matters article 7641 on how to bill for that G codes. There's a specific plan of care and documentation model you have to follow that is outlined in these articles. It also explains how to report the diagnoses of obesity and BMI in conjunction with the elements of documentation that this visit entails. It's not a regular E&M visit, but a specific treatment plan that follows the methodology of how CMS wants providers to treat obesity, how the patient has to show success and how to set up the documentation requirements.
