The provider assessed and managed For Morbid obesity BMI-33, any one help whether can we code Morbid obesity or down code to obesity, Hence BMI is 33.

We can bill as Morbid obesity and Please find the below reference for BMI

BMI is used to broadly define different weight groups in adults 20 years old or older. The same groups apply to both men and women.
  • Underweight: BMI is less than 18.5
  • Normal weight: BMI is 18.5 to 24.9
  • Overweight: BMI is 25 to 29.9
  • Obese: BMI is 30 or more

Thanks for your response,
this for ICD guidelines.
  • Overweight: BMI = 25.0-29.9
  • Obese: BMI =30.0-39.9
  • Morbidly obese: BMI = 40+

Kindly review and help me what we code.

If the provider documents morbid obesity yet the BMI is stated in a range that does not reflect morbid then the coder is not allowed to change anything, either the provider must amend the record to correct the obesity diagnosis or the BMI must be documented correctly. This is stated in the coding guidelines.
