I work for a pain management company, we would like to lease MRI equipment and wondering if anyone is doing the same and how are you billing, ie - interpretation and technical, we will have a radiologist read but we would like to pay them separately.... not sure if we would be able to bill for both....please any help would be appreciated.

MRI Billing

We do our MRI's here at our hospital but use an outside company to do our readings. When we bill for the MRI, we use a TC modifier showing we only did the Technical Side. if you are billing only the reading (professional), you would bill the same code but with a -26 modifier. These would require 2 separate Tax ID's to show they are 2 different companies. If you are going to bill for both technical and professional and then pay the Radiologist based on contract or salary, you need to bill with no modifier showing you did both sides. Then you would pay your fees/salaries to the Radiologist for doing the reading. Hope that makes sense.
