Hi: I work for a practice management company that handles 35 internal medicine practices- all the practices bill under one Tax ID- if an established patient from one practice decides to leave that practice and wants to be a new patient in one of the other practices in the group are they allowed to bill new patient or is it established patient because it s the same tax ID? I believe it has to be billed as established but just want to check my facts. Thank you
 
You are correct. The only possible exception is the sub-specialty exception, which some private payers may allow.
